The Arrival

Migration is the social engine of history. The mass migration from Syria and Iraq to Europe in recent months has challenged the core democratic values of empathy and tolerance. In this practical workshop we will use Shaun Tan’s masterwork, The Arrival, and contemporary accounts and images of migration to explore the values of citizenship.

A Piece of Bread

Roberto Innocenti’s story, Rose Blanche, exemplifies the compassionate action that, when embodied, may help us to see connections to the present and our responsibilities as agents of change.

I longs for bloo skys

The loss of a friend begins a journey to rediscover the courage we all need if we are to build places together where we can live in community. Margaret Wild’s picturebook, Woolvs in the Sitee, offers a rich and evocative context for exploring what we mean by “active citizenship.”
